My hair affair!

30 Jan

I love hair. Any kind, any style.  I’m only 30 years old, but I’ve been a hair stylist for over 24 years now.  Just ask my mom and she’ll tell you she was forced to hand over all rights to my hair by the time I was six.  According to her, I complained when she couldn’t get my braids as tight as I wanted them and that’s when I took charge of my own hair.  (If you could see my grade school pictures you would know how patient my mom was to not intervene!  And how about those bangs?  (I’ll dedicate a whole post to bangs, so stay tuned.)  I developed my skills on my cabbage patch doll who still sports the upside-down braid I styled for her when I was in second grade.
While riding the bus home in middle school I overheard a very mature, very cool high school girl describing her plans for beauty school to her friends.   I knew right then that beauty school was for me too.  (Thanks Jill!)  I enrolled in New Horizons Cosmetology School during my last year of high school.  After graduating top of my class (totally kidding!) I spent several years working in three different salons.  When I decided to stay home as a full-time mom with our first child, I still managed to squeeze in a few hair appointments here and there for family and friends.  From cutting friends hair in middle school to working in several salons to currently keeping my family coifed, I just can’t resist getting my hands in a head of hair.
Now that I have four little munchkins, my time for actually getting a hold of other people’s hair has drastically diminished.  I like to apply the term “hairy” to what I am dealing with now, 5 heads of hair that keep me on my toes.  So that’s where this blog comes in!   I hope it allows me to keep up with the hair world by discussing it with anyone kind enough to read this blog!  Hair tips, hair products, hair styles, you name it, we will talk about it.
Hopefully I can find a way to help you with your own “hairy” situation.  Thanks for visiting!

I’m just wondering about you only having 5 heads of hair to get your hands into… 4 kids + 1 husband + 1 you = 6 heads of hair. Oh, and you can do mine any time you would like! : )

You are right about the six heads, it’s just with the five I have to put mine on the back back burner so I forgot about it! No, I do get to squeeze in a blow-dry or a quick flat-iron job here and there. And PLEASE come visit so I can do your hair. Are you growing yours out or keeping it short? I just got mine cut today similar to yours. Sister hair power, oh ya!

Tina, I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw you as my first non-family comment. How great since you are like family to my family! You and your “guys” make such a charming bunch. How great that you got a dark and a light haired boy!

And wow, you are in for some good hair days with having a little girl. CONGRATS! All I can say is start buying bows and flowers! I bet she will have gorgeous hair just like her mommy. Is your hair currently as long as in your picture? I love it!

Your tiny creations are adorable too. How do you come up with that stuff? Oh, and I would love to see what your hair looked like in the 80’s on your 80’s memory blog! Hugs to you too!

Ruthie! You have a blog which just made my whole day, week, month! I am actually in a really “hairy” situation and have been meaning to call you for advice. I’m talking about post-baby hair fall out. Seriously, Caroline did a number- i have no bangs anymore- boo hoo) I’m calling you this week in hopes that you have some miracle, fast hair growth product!! 🙂

    • Ruth 13. Feb, 2011 at 6:52 pm #

What? No bangs. Send me pictures! In your Christmas card your hair looked thick and luscious! These babies are worth it, but really, why the hair I always ask??? If it means you calling me though, great! I’ll be on the look-out for something. Pre-natal pills is the sure bet but takes time to see results. I’ll be thinking……
